North Cotswolds Gardens

London from £635

Hidcote Manor gardens with their outdoor ‘rooms’ and planting for all seasons by the National Trust were the creation of American Arts and Crafts enthusiast Lawrence Johnston a century ago. Close by is Kiftsgate Court, a sloping garden on the very edge of the Cotswolds with wonderful views over the Vale of Evesham, and developed lovingly by successive generations of one family, now given a modern touch.  Snowshill Manor, also managed by the National Trust and once home to an eccentric collector, also has beautiful hillside gardens influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement.  We stop to see the beautiful honey-coloured limestone village of Broadway with its many former coaching inns, once home to an illustrious colony of writers and artists including John Singer Sargent who painted his famous ‘Carnation, Rose, Lily’ while living here.
